Network Home Folder Tutorial
This document will show you the steps needed to access files stored in your district home folder from a computer outside the school district with connectivity to the Internet.
Overview
For your convenience your district home folder is accessible from computers off site that have connectivity to the Internet.
This means that you can access your home folder, download documents to your home computer for editing, upload documents from your home computer to your district home folder for later use, or just view the documents you have stored in your district home folder.
Restrictions
Certain file types are not allowed on the district file server, disallowed file types are executables, compressed files, audio files, and video files.
Common extensions of disallowed file types are:
- .exe
- .com
- .bat
- .zip
- .tar
- .tgz
- .jpg
- .png
- .gif
- .wma
- .mp3
- .ogg
- .wmv
- .mov
- .mpg
Copywrited materials are not allowed on the district file server without permission of the copywrite holder.
Instructions
Use your web browser to navagate to the Woodland School District web site located at
http://www.woodlandschools.org.

Highlight the Information Services link.

Select the Online Access link.

Click on the Network Home Folder Online link under All Operating Systems. (If you don't see the page and it says "unauthorized" then log in with your usual network username and password.)

You'll be presented with a pop-up window saying the website certificate can not be verified.

You may tell your web browser to accept the certificate permanently or temporarily for this session.

An authentication window will pop up. Enter your username and password then click on the OK button.

You'll now be presented with your network home folder.

Features
Here are some of the features avaiable to use with Online Documents
- Open a file
- Save a file
- Change language
- Navigate home folders
- Create a new folder
- Upload a file to your network home folder
- Delete items from your network home folder
- Rename items in your network home folder
- Download a folder in compressed (zip) format to your local computer
- Logout
To open a file stored in your network home folder find the file you want to open and click on it. If you have the appropreate application it will open the file automatically, if not your computer may ask you to choose an application to open the file with or to save the locally.
To save a local copy of a file stored in your network folder righ-click on that file and select save as in the drop down box.
To change your language setting click on the language icon in the upper right hand corner of your browser window. Select your desired language from the drop down box.

To naviagate to a folder just click on thedesired foldername once. To naviage up a folder be sure the drop down box says Windows Network (Up) and click on the Ok button.

To create a new folder go to the folder where you want the new folder to reside and select new folder from the drop down box and click on the Ok button. Enter the desired folder name in the black box that appears and press the Ok button.

To upload a file navagate to the network folder you want to store the file in and select New file (Upload) from the drop down menu and browse to the file you want to upload to your network home folder.

To delete a file or folder click on the check box to the right of that file or folder and select Delete Selected Items from the drop down menu and click on the Ok button. Multiple items can be selected at one time.

To rename a file or folder select the file or folder by clicking on the check box to it's left and selecting Rename Selected Items from the drop down box and clicking on the Ok button.

To create a compressed copy of a network home folder select the network home folder by clicking on the check box to it's left and select Download This Folder (zip) from the drop down box and click on the Ok button. Click on the Save to disk selection in the pop-up box.

When you're done accessing your network home folder remember to select logout from the drop down box to protect your sensitive data from unauthorized access.
